Joseph Cotton was born in the late 50’s in Kingston, Jamaica. He cut his first tune for Joe Gibbs in 1976, and quickly recorded several local hits for various producers. His carrier went international when he recorded the chart-topping ‘No Touch The Style’ for Fashion Records in the UK, in 1986. He later toured around the world with Blood & Fire Sound System, and he hasn’t stop touring or recording since. Joseph Cotton is now regarded as a legendary veteran, sampled by Drake and working with the French young guns such as Biga Ranx or Manu Digital. His first album for Patate Records showcase Joseph Cotton witty lyrics, bouncing flow and powerful statement, over irresistible Reggae and Dancehall riddims and even a guest appearance by the mighty Cornell Campbell. Né à Kingston à la fin des années 50, il enregistre ses premiers titres en 1976 pour Joe Gibbs et enchaine rapidement quelques succès sur la scène locale. Sa carrière prend une dimension internationale lorsqu’il obtient un hit #1 en Angleterre avec No Touch The Style, en 1986. Il devient un des symboles du style Dancehall, où le DJ proche du rappeur moderne prend le pas sur les chanteurs reggae. Son flow, son humour, son dynamise, en font encore aujourd’hui une légende, samplé par Drake et invité par la jeune garde française, de Biga Ranx à Manu Digital ou Danakil. Son premier album pour Patate Records réunit tous ces ingrédients, entre regard lucide et amusé sur notre société, nos valeurs ou nos relations amoureuses.
