Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Phillip Fraser was part of the « Freedom Sounds » collective in the late 70’s, alongside childhood friend Prince Allah, Earl Zero and Bertram Brown. Together, they produced some of the best music coming from Jamaica with the help of King Tubby and the Soul Syndicate Band.
This album beautifully captures a snapshot of a special place and time, as well as a marvelous equation involving dub producer King Tubby and singer Phillip Fraser. 12 rare cuts.

Né dans les ghettos de Kingston, Jamaïque, Phillip Fraser participe à la création du collectif
« Freeedom Sounds » dans la seconde moitié des années 70 avec ses amis Bertram Brown, Prince Allah et Earl Zero. Ensemble, ils vont signer une des plus belles pages de l’histoire du reggae, avec l’aide du Soul Syndicate band, composé de Fully Fullwood (basse), Santa Davis (Batterie), Earl Chinna Smith et Tony Chin (guitare). Ils feront d’ailleurs l’objet d’un film documentaire diffusé en salle aux USA, « Word Sound and Power ».
Cet album, Freedom Sounds in Dub ! est un instantané de cette époque bénie, réalisé et mixé dans les studios de King Tubby, avec l’aide de ses « assistants », Scientist et Prince Jammy. Ensemble, ils captent l’essence du reggae et du dub. 12 titres (6 vocaux + 6 versions dub) mêlant classiques, raretés, voire quelques dubs inédits, pour re-découvrir Phillip Fraser, un artiste majeur du reggae jamaïcain et quelques uns des plus beaux dub sortis des studios de King Tubby !
